I too was rooting for the Giants, for all the reason you listed and more. Being from MN, we're all really sick of Boston teams winning all the time with our castoffs.

A friend of mine joked after the game that Belichick was likely to stammer in the post game interviews "But...but we cheated so hard to win that game..."

I'm happy for 3 reasons.

1) I like Michael Strahan a lot.

2) I'm tired of seeing that asshole Bill Belichick
make a mockery of good sportsmanship and get
lauded for it. I'm also disappointed in Tom
Brady. I used to like him, then I saw him head
butting his offensive line like a retard all
 season.

3) Delicious, delicious schadenfreude.

I didn't really sit down and watch this game until the fourth quarter--but that was the best part.
I didn't really CARE who won; but I, too, have a tendency to root for the underdog. I guess being a Cub fan has taught me well--all too well.
Good job, Giants.

Someone at SI.com, a Patriots fan, wrote an editorial about the game. He was disappointed with how his team played, but he wrote he was genuinely happy for Giants fans. To paraphrase: you focus all this energy on ONE team and wait for the big payoff to come, but it generally doesn't. You suffer, instead. And so for a team to not only win the SB, but to win it like the Giants won it, is an incredible feeling for a fan.

I don't watch sports, but I appreciate good plays and feats of athletic derring-do, but I'd rather not watch a full game of anything to see it.

Usually I would have been right there beside you rooting for the underdog, but I was so sick of everyone and his uncle rooting against the Patriots that it started to seem a bit crowded for my tastes.

I mean, really, what's the point of rooting for the underdog if EVERYONE is rooting for the underdog (minus the Patriot fans of course)? In my mind there is none.

A lot of people were betting on the Giants too. Heard on the news that Vegas lost over $2 million; found the following article to corroborate that. (Me, I don't even follow football.)

It seems that the New England Patriots are equivalent to Manchester United. Revered and respected, but jealousy prevails from other fans. In England, it is said that no-one can be a neutral when it comes to United. You either love them or hate them. I know this from experience.

I hated Liverpool in the eighties. They won everything then. Now, looking back, you see what a team they were.
Jammer's comments about sport, and that 'anything can happen', are so true. That's the beauty of sport, especially team sport. A collective drive to achieve the ultimate. When it pays off, there is no feeling like it.
I'll admit I don't watch American Football, but
Well done Giants.

Barcelona '99 anyone?
