I agree with most everything you said.

Soccer is so damn boring. It's like ballet in a sense....I can appreciate that it takes a high degree of athleticism to perform, but it just bores me to tears.

Football is definitely the king of sports. However, I prefer the college game. In the college game, one loss really CAN ruin your whole season if you had national championship aspirations. Now that is high stakes. Also, I think there tends to be more of a sense of team in the college game in general.

"not that cohesive sense of structured madness that you get in the NFL"

Can you explain this a bit further...because I'm not sure I get what you mean.

As a Chicagoan, I like the Cubs too, but it's a lot harder to root for them now since management has spent so much on the team. They're basically underachievers, as they should have won many more games with the money spent on the team.

Football/soccer is fairly boring most of the time, however I have to admit that I can be fairly intrigued by the more competitive matches such as finals, The World Cup, etc. Its more of a social spectator sport though, round here, you go to the pub, have a few pints and watch the match. Sitting at home watching meaningless league games is for the Trekkies of the soccer world.

My personal favourite sport to watch is Rugby, unfortunately my country (Ireland) just had a horrible World Cup, but its still fun to watch teams like the All Blacks or South Africa in action. Plus it was very interesting to see some of the younger teams like Fiji and Samoa really make a convincing attempt this year.

Wait, wait, wait.

There's a team called the "All Blacks"? And I thought Redskins was an offensive team name.

They play in an all black team kit. Its their self-adopted nickname, I guess they like it!

Their pre-match Haka is a sight to behold.

Living in Canada, merely mentioning that the NHL is not the inherent god of sports is damn near punishable by death. Nonetheless, Hockey bores me unless it's the playoffs. Much for the same reason as baseball. There are 82 games in a regular season. The NFL is king and always will be.

Go Seahawks!

Here we go, the usual Americans slagging off on football (soccer) yet again. I realise it doesnt have a goal or point every 15 seconds and that it requires personal investment in order to care about the teams you're watching, either pro or con, but it is the most exciting, dramatic and enthralling sport on the planet. I grew up playing competitive soccer and still enjoy playing it more than any other sport. The only American sport that I get truly excited for is NFL football, ironically enough :) Baseball? Nascar? Poker? not sports.. Basketball? Just not my thing. I do love Golf, but that is an international sport, just like football (soccer).

Agreed with the fella who loves Rugby. At international level, it is super exciting to watch. Club level I dont know enough about it though it is getting some exposure here in Canada through Setanta now.

Anyway just wanted to write and stick up for the beautiful game and all its 1 or 2 fans out there in North America!
