IDWID: It do what it do

Jammer’s random blog that simply do what it do.

All quiet on the IDWID front

IDWID has been less busy of late. There are a few reasons for that. The first is, of course, the return of Battlestar Galactica reviews, which will be occupying much of my writing time for the next couple of months.

The second is that I’m in the process of buying a house, which, as you can imagine, takes up chunks of time here and there, especially since I’m shopping for things that will be going into that house shortly after I move in. Next week I begin the fun process of packing, followed the week after that with moving.

Consequently, I’m not putting a lot of thought into IDWID at the moment. If a blog topic pops into mind (one actually did yesterday, but I forgot what it was before I had a chance to write it), I might be motivated to write, but otherwise things might be a little quiet in my corner of the “blogosphere” (a term that CNN has endlessly adopted and which needs to be murdered).

That’s okay, because I’m guessing most of you would rather see activity over on the Jammer’s Reviews site than here, anyway.

In like a lion, out like a lamb

After my frustrated complaining a few weeks ago over the unending snow and cold, the weather immediately turned around. I complained, and it hasn’t snowed since, and the weather has been consistently in the the 30s, 40s, 50s, even 60s. That’s March for you. Is winter finally over? Well, the second I say that, I’ll jinx it.

I guess I should bitch more often. It pays off.

2007: It’s a wrap

This is just a quick hello to wish everyone a safe and happy new year. As the year winds down its final hours, I reflect upon this inaugural year of IDWID with my usual mantra:

IDWID: It do what it do. Especially in the final hours of the year. Read the rest of this entry »

Stolen newspaper saga update

As noted a couple weeks ago, I’ve had problems with someone in my building regularly stealing my Sunday newspaper. After months of putting up with it, I decided to take some action and call them out on it. Read the rest of this entry »

So you’re the son of a bitch who’s been stealing my newspaper

The nerve of people. This just plain pisses me off. Every week — or close to it — one of my neighbors steals my Sunday newspaper, unless I get up early enough to take it before they can. Sometimes they leave me the front section and steal the rest of it (including all the ad inserts). More often, they take the whole damn thing. They never take my newspaper any other day (how nice of them). If I’m gone for the weekend and come back Sunday night, my Saturday paper will still be there, but I can rest assured that my Sunday paper will not. Obviously, they want the ads. An IDWID sports discussion (mostly Chicago)

When it comes to sports, I don’t write about them. It’s probably for the same reason that I don’t write about music. While I enjoy music and sports, I don’t feel that they fall within my area of expertise, so I’ll leave the analysis to people better suited to it. But I do enjoy watching sports, particularly when there’s something exciting going on. Being in a Chicago-dominated pro sports area, I was raised on the Cubs, the Bears, and the Bulls. Not so much the White Sox or Blackhawks. We’ll get to that in a moment. Here are my random sports thoughts thrown into categories. Read the rest of this entry »

The case of the vanishing furniture

The other night I had this dream that I came home, opened my door, and my living room had been completely emptied. As in, everything. Gone. Entertainment center, TV, DVD shelf, pictures off the wall, all my furniture, my filing cabinets with my most important documents. All completely gone as if no one had lived there. Who could or would steal everything? Read the rest of this entry »

Review: Nine Inch Nails: ‘Year Zero’

Note: I’ve been sitting on the bulk of this review since mid-May because I didn’t get around to finishing it. But now that I’ve wrapped up my ramblings, here it is — decidedly less than timely.

I have an unwritten rule that I occasionally break, which is: I don’t write about music. I could feel comfortable being a film or TV critic. But a music critic? No way. Read the rest of this entry »

Wow, your Schwetty balls are delicious

Last weekend, my girlfriend Kathy and I made Oreo balls. Saying that sounds slightly wrong, and I can’t help but be reminded of that classic SNL sketch where Alec Baldwin touts his famously delicious Schwetty balls. Read the rest of this entry »

Regarding comic strips (part 2)

This entry is continued from part 1.

Going up the page in reverse order of my daily comic-strip reading, what’s next?

Zits by Jerry Scott & Jim Borgman: What’s not to like? Zits has got to be among the funniest of current comic strips. We’ve all been teenagers, so we can all relate. Zits is current, fresh, funny, and true. The interaction and sarcasm between Jeremy and his parents reveal the best and funniest of teen-related cliches. This is the rare comic strip that can actually make me occasionally laugh out loud. The authors understand humor, which might be more rare in comics than one might think (see B.C.).
